Welcome

Technology has come a long way in the past few decades. In the span of twenty years, we have seen the demise of the word processor as an independent unit, the end of typewriter production, and the death of several other products including: the floppy disk, the diskette, and the zip drive.

We live in a technical world, dependent upon computers. For years now, the business sector has benefited from the advancements produced by the computer era. The growing trend has been to computerize files, doing away with the old-fashioned hanging paper files. The constant search for efficiency has led us to a place where time is of the essence and we need information at our fingertips. In such a demanding society, the importance of backing up files is only too grave a reality.

From cell phones to PDAs and laptops, our world is computerized. We no longer write down information. New phone numbers and addresses are directly loaded into our latest wireless devices. Very seldom do we sync them to our computers, and when they crash, our lives unravel. We are at a total loss for all numbers except our own (and in some cases, maybe not even that) and a near mania sets in as we have to regress to what now seems like an archaic method of doing business, by pen and paper.

In the era of Web 2.0, it’s hard to imagine life without computers. From preschool students to great grandmothers, our world is digital. Computers now govern television signal reception, telephone connections, traffic light signals, and assist in numerous medical surgeries. Some might say that computers have replaced dogs as man’s best friend. It’s hard to think of few things we do without computer assistance. Map reading has become a thing of the past as many vehicles are manufactured with computerized GPS systems for simple directions. Person to person telephone interactions are less common as we conduct business with computer automated systems and pre-recorded instructions more so than with people.

From households to businesses, you will generally find an arsenal of computerized and technological instruments. The family computer has now transformed into family computers. Because we rely so heavily on these technological advancements, it's imperative that we understand the necessity of maintaining and backing up our new found lifelines. We may all be able to agree upon the concept that life without advanced devices has virtually become an unknown world.
